I just found out today from the ladies from the church. I am shocked... Still can't believe it. I still can't believe I didn't find out at the time. I would've loved to pay my respects to him...
Such an awesome soul, such a positive gentleman, so much energy gifted to the ones around him... I cried in the car in the way to Chatham.
Loved the way he was getting involved in all the beautiful initiatives around the town, his laugh, he's support.
He was a huge supporter and a huge part of the Christian Life International Film Festival, being the executive producer of the event and I just loved his dedication.
I will make sure that we'll instate an award to carry his legacy.
Condolences to the family.
I miss him.
God bless.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Doug. Doug was my boss from 1992-1998 while working at the Kent Joint Building Inspection System. He was a kind and generous soul. I'm grateful that we kept in touch for a few years after our KJBIS days but am so sorry I hadn't seen him in many years. He was supportive of his entire team and respected by all who knew him, contractors, ratepayers and staff alike.

Dearest Mary and family. It was truly a pleasure to chat briefly with you today following Doug's Celebration of Life service. It was no surpise to me to see such a large group of family and friends come out to pay their respects to your family in honour of Doug, a wonderful son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend of so many. As you know I initially met Doug during his days as a building inspector in the Blenheim area. Through that connection we grew to become great friends at a very difficult and most challenging time of my life. Had my circumstances been different perhaps my friendship with Doug could have evolved to a different level. To this day, I speak fondly of Doug very often as my family had the privilege of meeting and enjoying this fine man's company on many past occasions. It is with great sadness that I attended today's celebration and will forever remember Doug as the sweetest man I have ever known!! May you Rest in Peace ❤

We will miss our good friend and neighbour. When he helped renovate our ramshackle kitchen, he said at least we'd have a musical floor. It may not be level but it will B flat! So long, Doug.

Going to miss you bud, especially your infectious laugh and your skill of taking some bailing wire and parts that I have no idea about and turning into it into something funny for a play that makes everyone laugh. That was your gift to the world. See you upstairs at a dress rehearsal when we make everyone in the cast pee their paints with laughter and then we make the audience do the same.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the visitation or celebration of life for Doug but I will be holding Doug's family and Thamesville United Church in prayer. Doug was serving as the Chair of the Fairfield Museum Committee at the time of his death. He brought both practical help and vision to that role. Last summer, he replaced the roof on the garage at the Museum. He also had a vision for what the museum might be and the part it might play in reconciliation. His leadership will be deeply missed. His service was a blessing to the Conference.
