Obituary of George Douglas McGuire

McGuire: George Douglas of Cedarcroft Place, Stratford,ON., passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024  in his 91st year. Born in Dawn Twp., son of the Late George L. and Barbara (Zavitz) McGuire. He married the love of his life , Laura "Leone" (Thompson) in 1953 and together they farmed the home farm in Dawn Twp. until 1972, when they moved to Logan Twp., in Perth County. In 1996 they retired to Wiarton where George became active as a member of the Friends of the Airport and the Bruce County Sportsman Association. He also became an avid fisherman and golfer. Beloved husband of the Late Leone (Thompson) (2001) and his second wife Joan (Burgess) (2020).  Loving father of Dianne, Debby (Dale), Mary Lou, Terry (Alice), Rob (Vicky). Proud grandpa of 19 grandchildren and 27 great -grandchildren. Dear brother of Doris Shaw, Don McGuire, Larry McGuire, and brother-in-law to John Ito and Pat Lawson (Thompson). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings Bill, Vivian, Helen, Hazel, Bruce, Elaine and sons-in-law Wayne Jackson, Doug Layton and grandson Kristopher Bennewies. The McGuire family will receive friends at the John C. Badder Funeral Home, 72 Victoria St. on Sunday, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, April 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
