Obituary of Margaret Johnston
Johnston: Flora "Margaret" (McCallum) of the Village on the Ridge, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham on Sunday, September 10, 2023 in her 101st year. Born in Euphemia Twp., daughter of the late Hugh and Eva (Luke) McCallum. Beloved wife of the Late (Thomas) Harold Johnston (1989) and best friend of the late Benji. Margaret is survived by her three daughters Evelyn Bilton (Bob) of Florence, Lila Brennan (Pete) of St. Thomas, and Norma Brown (Flynn) of Victoria BC. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Krista Gouri (Sonny), Aaron Bilton (Rocio), Dr. Amy Bilton (Andreas), Jeremy Brennan (Amy Morgan), Bonnie Betlejemski (Chris), Andrew Brown, Dr. Lauren Trudell (Mike), and great-grandchildren Keiran, Soraya, Carmen, Alicia, Lily, Avery, Anna, Felix, Julia and Filip. Margaret was a strong determined woman of faith, who lit up at the sight of her family, particularly her great-grandchildren. Nearing the end of her life she practised their names so she wouldn't forget them or their connections. She was quiet but had the knack of sensing when others needed support and would befriend them. For well over 70 years she actively supported St. Andrew's United Church, Cairo where she led the Mission band, taught Sunday school, worked in the U.C.W., and made pies well into her nineties. As the longest member of St. Andrew's she cut the 150th Anniversary cake and was a role model to many. The Johnston family will receive relatives and friends at the Badder & Robinson Funeral Home, 211 Elm St., Bothwell on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 12:30 PM until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 PM. Interment Bothwell Cemetery. If desired donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Andrew's Cairo United Church would be appreciated.
