Obituary of Grace Marie Moor

Grace Marie (Jackson) Moor passed away peacefully Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 at the age of 91. Grace was born on January 30, 1931 to Arthur and Pemla (Gibson) Jackson, on a farm near Florence, Ontario. In her early years, life on the farm enabled her to develop a deep love for animals and nature while displaying a strong work ethic.  She attended high school in Florence and played baseball, pitching for the infamous ‘Florence Chicks’. Grace had a strong determination to succeed, which led her to attend Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa in 1950. She returned to Chatham, Ontario where she started her career as a Medical Laboratory

Technologist, working at St. Joseph Hospital. During this time, Grace met Beverley Moor at Erie Beach. They were married on September 10, 1955 and built their home in Wabash, Ontario where they began their lifelong love story for over 66 years. Their union truly demonstrated the virtues to love, honour and cherish.

Grace left her job after 10 years, to raise five children at home. She was a wonderful mother, always putting her children’s needs ahead of her own.

The Community of Christ church in Wabash was an important part of her life, given her unwavering faith and devotion to God. She played the piano and organ for many weddings, funerals and church services. Grace especially liked Easter, when she would ensure the Moor brood were dressed in their Sunday finest. Grace accepted a call to Elder in 1988 providing ministry to many.

It would be remiss not to mention that Grace completed her Medical Laboratory Technologist diploma at Fanshawe College when she was 52 years of age. She worked at Woodstock General Hospital for 12 years before retiring with Bev to Port Lambton, Ontario.

Grace had many hobbies such as: quilting, gardening, oil painting, sewing and canning. She loved sports, especially baseball. She was an avid swimmer, doing lane swims even in her 70’s. She also enjoyed playing card games like Pepper.

Grace exemplified qualities of humility, modesty, continuous learning, conviction to family, love for others, and hospitality. She always deflected attention to others as she wanted it to be their moment. Her name “Grace” was truly a reflection of her thoughtfulness, poise and gentleness of spirit. She was the rock of our family, offering strength during various life struggles. She truly was an example of the best mother, wife, relation, and friend.

She received much joy from her grandkids and great grandkids. She made each child a personalized quilt, pillowcase and an oil painting of their favourite animal. She also participated in their blessings and weddings.

Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with vascular dementia and entered Riverview Gardens in 2014. She continued to be surrounded with the love of her husband and family throughout her stay there. Grace leaves behind her loving family and half a piece of pumpkin pie, but she saved her fork. She passed away knowing the best dessert was to come, in heaven with her loving God.

Beloved wife of Beverley Moor from Dresden. Loving mother to the late Nancy (Tom Knight) of Dresden; Ken & Naomi Moor of Calgary; Susan & Ric Piacek of Dresden; Patsy & Rob Tonin of Cambridge; and Bryce & Heather Moor of Petrolia. Grace was a loving sister to the late James (Irene) Jackson, sister-in-law to the late Betty & Tiny Bechard; the late Barb & Jerry Morrison; the late Doris & Mark Stanlick; the late Doreen & Ron Armstrong; the late Janice & Alec Vadovic; and Dennis & Joan Moor. Forever missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held at the Community of Christ church in Wabash on Sunday June 5th, 2022 @ 2:30 pm  with visitation from 1:30pm until the time of the service. Bring your quilt made by Grace. Those wishing to leave an expression of sympathy please consider a donation to World Accord at https://worldaccord.org/donate/ . Online condolences and donations may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com.

The family wishes to thank the healthcare providers at Riverview Gardens in Chatham who provided a loving environment for Grace during her final years.
