Phyllis Marie (Elliott) Johnson
November 8, 1930 to October 7, 2021
A well lived life has ended as Phyllis Johnson has gone to be with the Lord October 7, 2021 in her 91st year. Phyllis was the beloved wife of Fred Johnson for more than 70 years and the mother of nine children: Jane (Bill) Shifflett, Linda (John) Corrente, Grace (Gary) Forget, MaryAnn (Brian) Pianosi, Rob (Joanne) Johnson, Christine Johnson (James Murray), Ron Johnson, Phil Johnson (Laura), Colleen Johnson (Doug Reid). Phyllis also leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Pearl (Gonyou) and Garnet Elliott and by her brother, Ray Elliott, and her brothers-in-law, Cyril Lauwereys and Lewis Johnson, and by her sisters-in-law, Joy Watts and Gwen Hamilton. She is survived by her siblings Shirley (Jerry) Pickering, Lois (John) Oxley, Barbara Lauwereys, Pauline Owen and Paul (Cathy) Elliott and by her sister-in-law, Diane Elliott and her brother-in-law, Dan (Cherie) Johnson as well as many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis and Fred grew up in the Charlemont neighbourhood and, after their marriage, farmed together in that area for many years before moving to Dresden. Phyllis was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a great believer in higher education and promoted it unceasingly to all of her children and grandchildren. She was a woman of faith and, even in her times of confusion in her last weeks of life, prayed constantly. She used her creative talents in many ways; making clothing, cooking, knitting and especially in quilting. Every person in this family has a treasured quilt made by Phyllis. She was someone who freely shared meals and even her home to many people beyond her own family. The impact that she had on our family cannot be described. Phyllis was honoured and loved by this family and will be greatly missed by all.
