Obituary of Ralph Frederick Sloan
Sloan, Ralph Frederick, a resident of Harwich Township, passed away peacefully at the Blenheim Community Village on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the age of 83. Born in Chatham, son of the late Samuel and Jean (Maynard) Sloan. Beloved husband of 60 years to Bonnie Jean (Stephens) Sloan. Cherished and loving father to Elizabeth Gillier, Mary Aitken (Gary), Patricia Dierickse (Brad), David Sloan and Paul Sloan (Cohen). Grandfather to Christin and Craig Gillier (Anna), Corey, Alyssa, and Cameron Aitken, Sarah (Evan) and Evan Dierickse, Taylor and Emily Sloan, Keegan, Connor and Delaney Sloan, and great-grandfather to Caroline Gillier, Sophie Howson. Ralph is survived by his siblings Barbara Donnelly (Jim), Norine Duck (Allan), Lyle Sloan (Pat), and predeceased by siblings Betty Lou Baker (Bryce), and Gordon Sloan.
Ralph worked in data management at Navistar for 37 years. He was actively involved through the years, coaching Kent Centre Men’s Fastball where he could be found fundraising selling pop from The Pop Shop, coaching intermediate girl’s fastball in Kent Bridge, and Chatham Minor hockey teams. Ralph spent numerous hours volunteering as a steward and elder with St. Paul’s United Church. His voice will be remembered singing in the choir at St. Paul’s & CK Singers often as a soloist, and running St. Paul’s Junior Choir. He was a volunteer fireman for 42 years and previous fire chief for Station #12 North Harwich. Ralph enjoyed golfing, refinishing furniture, volunteering for Bibles for Missions, Christmas festivities, gardening, bird watching and time by his pool.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at the Blenheim Community Village for the wonderful care & compassion that they gave to Ralph.
At Ralph’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Bethel Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the John C. Badder Funeral Home, Thamesville.
