Obituary of Mary Lou Burnett

Burnett: Mary Lou (Cook) a resident of Chatham and formerly of Dresden, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Meadow Park Nursing Home, Chatham at the age of 89. Born in Dresden, the daughter of the late Garnet and Marion (Lambkin) Cook. When she was 17, Mary Lou married Cecil Burnett and they were happily married for 64 years until his death in 2012. Mary Lou and Cecil had 6 children Serita Washington (Johnny), Wendy Chambers (Warren), Elizabeth Spencer (Roy), Carrie Burnett (James Kerr), Randy Burnett (Judy Smith) and Greg Burnett. She will be sadly missed by 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Virginia Travis (Wayne), Jarvis Cook (Janet), Thelma Cook, Ivy Johnson, Herb Burnett and Bob Brown. Predeceased by grandson Joe Burnett; granddaughters Melissa Burnett, Alisha Burnett and Sarah Washington; brothers Gerald and James Cook; and sister Eleanor Brown. The Burnett family will receive friends at the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 679 North St, Dresden on Tuesday from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at First Regular Baptist Church, 121 Queen St. E., Dresden on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 11:00 AM with visiting from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Mary Lou will be laid to rest in Dresden Cemetery beside her beloved Cecil and their cherished grandchildren Alisha, Melissa, and Joey.  If desired, donations by cheque to Alzheimer’s Society or the Parkinson Foundation would be appreciated.  Online donations and condolences may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com.
