Dear Family of Shirley,
I worked with Shirley for several years at Commercial Union in Windsor. Shirley was very serious about her job and a good adjuster, but, after getting to know her, beneath that stern exterior was a warm and funny, caring lady. My dear friend Debbie worked there two and we had lots of good times over the years with Shirley. Sadly, Debbie died of cancer at the young age of 48.After Shirley had moved back to London I got married (31years ago) and I was very touched that Shirley made the trip to come to our wedding.
I did visit Shirley in London after her first bout with cancer. We had some phone visits and a few cards back and forth.. We moved to Cambridge, Kitchener, Port Dover and now we are in Kingsville. Sadly, we lost touch over the past years with all of our life changes and moves.But thinking of Shirley will always bring a warm smile to my heart! Shirley always looked forward to visits to Bothwell.. She spoke fondly of her nieces and nephews and always treasured time spent with her family.
May you be comforted by the warm memories that will always be with you.
Sincerely,
Donna Goebel

Dear family
I worked with Shirley at AXA Insurance when I was a very green adjuster. We worked in the same cubicle and I was forever asking her to help interpret the policy wordings that she was so knowledgeable about. I went on to be Shirley's supervisor, but she knew exactly what she was doing and always looked out for the bottom line of the company. She was a hard worker and I know her bout with breast cancer was a very difficult time for her.
Although Shirley may have appeared to be tough on the exterior, she had a very compassionate and good heart.
So sorry for your loss.

Hello Nancy and Betty and families;
What a character your aunt was-she was my best friend at Axa Insurance for many years. We sat several cubicles away from each other and we would often drop by each other's workstation to shoot the breeze. Shirley was an adjuster for many years and she would give me her opinion on various matters. I loved that she was a straight-shooter and would call a spade a spade. Shirley mostly handled the auto glass program invoicing and they would not get a nickel more than they deserved if she had her way! She had the invoices covered with lines/check marks/ X's and I kidded her about her perpetual pile of invoices that were not yet approved. She was conscientious and honest to the bone, as you are no doubt aware.
I retired after her, about 5 years ago and I visited her for about a year after I retired. She would call me and invite me for a beer after work and I would fill her in on all the work scuttlebutt. Our common hero was Elvis. I loved her Elvis mirror and she had an album with the greatest Elvis tune ever..."Hurt". I didn't have that tune so she would play it for me and she even lended the album to me. She was so good with dates-she knew the day/month/year of many birthdays,deaths-as sharp as a tack.
One year I completed her tax return for her and I returned the next week and she said with a pencil stuck over her ear that it was done correctly-all marked with lines/check marks and X's! She had no intention of doing the return the next year...no changing Shirley's mind!
She would often say something and then say "knock on wood" and touch her forehead. She also liked to say "There is no rest for the wicked". She also said that she was doing fine as she read the obit and her name was not there. I could not take the smoke any more so we went our ways-which of course I regret. She was SO obsessed with her mail-my crucial task was to fetch it when she was away so no-one would steal her bills I presume! Ha. I wanted to share these wonderful memories that I have of your aunt.I hope that your memories of her comfort you as well.
I know that she had a few bouts of cancer-is this what she passed away from? How long was she in Parkwood? If you have any stories from her final years I would love to hear from you at lori.williams.ron@gmail.com
