Obituary of Sadie "Louise" Long

The family of Sadie “Louise” Long are saddened to announce her passing on May 13th, 2026 after a well-lived life of 101 years. She was the cherished wife for 71 years to the late Art Long (2017). She was the beloved mother to Gary (Thea), Shirley Gardiner (late Jack), Janette, Ken (Rose), Orville (Margie), Bev Welch (Rick), Donna Barnes (Lonnie), and Rhonda. She was the adored grandmother and great-grandmother to Allen (Julia, Luke), David (Sloan), Mark & Anne, Vincent & Catherine Long, Sherrie & Lee Abrantas (Beckham, Chloe, Violet), Greg & Joelle Long (Caleb), Tara Smith (Brayden, Hunter, Kiera), Madison Long, Brad & Jen Welch (Michelle, Jack), Tracy & Matt Logan (Emma, Ferguson) Ben Barnes & Jess Brown, Alicia & Steve Dotzert (Konrad, Cullen), Casey, Hailey Sisson, Guy, and the late Jesse Leveille.

She was born at Cairo, Euphemia Township, to Joe and Mona Cross. And was the caring big sister to the late Phyllis (late Bill McBrayne, late Joe Blain) and Alma (late Don Johnston) Louise was predeceased by Art’s family Gordon, Ray, Orville, and Walter (Dorothy) Long.

Mom and Dad started their married life farming near Clachan where they lovingly raised their eight children. When they sold the farm they moved to Wardsville and then Glencoe. She spent the last 6 years at Bear Creek Terrace, Petrolia. Her faith played a large part in her life. She was devoted to volunteering in the community, well known for her delicious apple pies, and her beautiful gardens. Her memory was phenomenal and her phone calls to see how we were doing were always welcome. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and keeping in touch with them as well as her nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 17th from 2-4 p.m. and Monday, May 18th at 11 a.m. until the beginning of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Badder Funeral Home, 211 Elm St. Bothwell.  Interment at the Purcell Cemetery.  Donations to the Purcell Cemetery payable by cheque or e-transfer (purcellcemetery@gmail.com) or charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
