Obituary of Leo Edward Capeling

Capeling: Leo, a resident of Chatham, was called home to the Lord, at Riverview Gardens, Chatham on Monday, March 2, 2026 at the age of 96. Born in Howard Twp., son of the late Carl and Myrtle (Marsh) Capeling. Leo had retired from Navistar in Chatham. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching, especially the purple martins. Beloved husband of 69 years to Marilyn  (Mabee) Capeling. Loving father of Brad Capeling (Anita), Kevin Capeling (Barbara) and Karen Wittum (Dan). Proud grandpa of Sarah (Timothy), Heather (Robbie),Rachel (Jono), Christopher, Kyle (Danielle), Stephanie (Kevin), Holly (Andrew), Rebecca (Colin), Scott, Laura (Derek) and 17 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Doug Capeling and Will Capeling (Jean). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by grandson Paul Shepherd. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on 4th floor west at Riverview Gardens for the wonderful care they gave to Leo. The Capeling family will receive family and friends at the John C. Badder Funeral Home, 72 Victoria St., Thamesville on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM, with visiting for 1 hour prior to the service. Interment Mayhew-Mt.Pleasant Cemetery, Thamesville.
