Obituary of Rob Vanderveen

Robert “Rob” Stanley Vanderveen
October 18, 1957 – January 27, 2025

In the early morning of January 27, 2025, Rob Vanderveen went peacefully to be with his heavenly Father, surrounded by his family.

Born in Chatham to Herman (2013) and Barbara Vanderveen, Rob—known as “Bob” to many—spent most of his life in Thamesville, Ontario. A plumber for more than forty years, he owned Jovan Mechanical with his wife, Janet. When asked about retiring, he would say, “when I don’t enjoy getting up to go to work in the morning,” a day that never came. Rob took great pride in his work, where his son, daughter and grandson now carry on his legacy and was a respected member of the construction community in southwestern Ontario. He was also deeply involved in his church and Christian school community.

Rob embraced life fully. He had many hobbies and loved international travel, attending airshows and concerts, camping across Ontario and driving his Ford Mustang with his wife by his side. His kids often teased him that they would sell his vast collections of books, paintings and memorabilia, to which he would reply that he might just donate it all first. Rob found joy in sharing his passions and interests with others and made connections wherever he went. Ever a conversationalist, Rob was a friend to many and a stranger to none.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Janet (née Tamminga), and their children Kristen, Michael (Natasha), Lisa (Philip) and Nicole (Tom) and his cherished grandchildren, Myles, Emma, Zachary, and Callen. He is also mourned by his mother, siblings, in-laws and many more family members, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his vibrant life inspires us to live fully and faithfully.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the cardiac ICU nurses, doctors and support team at London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital, for their compassionate care during the past two weeks. A special thank you goes to Rob’s cousin, Deb Padbury, for her unwavering support and love while Rob was in the hospital.

The Vanderveen Family will receive family and friends at the Eben-Ezer Canadian Reformed Church, 483 McNaughton Ave. E. Chatham on Thursday from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.The Funeral Service will be held at the church on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM.  A Family Burial will be held at Mayhew-Mt.Pleasant Cemetery, Thamesville on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations (by cheque) can be made to:Eben-Ezer Christian School or London Health Sciences Foundation (ICU Unit).
